Share Your World – 2014 Week 17

What are some words that just make you smile?

“Alrededor-nos” and “htaputhaki”. First is a word we made up when I was at University studying Spanish. “Alrededor” is Spanish for “around”,  adding “nos” seemed logical as we were referring to ourselves. The intended meaning was “Let’s go around” in relation to moving from one classroom to another on the campus. The second is an actual Greek word, meaning either a cheese bun or a mop 🙂 As you see, I was not very good at Greek.

When you lose electricity in a storm, do you light the candles or turn on the flashlight? How many of each do you own?

Candles! I have dozens of candles in every room and can find them all with my eyes closed, if necessary. Though we have 1 flashlight, in case of emergency a smartphone app for a flashlight is the first to come to the rescue.

What is the longest book you ever read?

“The Magic Mountain” by Thomas Mann. Thought I read “War and Peace” by Tolstoy as well. But The Mountain is The Longest, Most Boring Book I had misfortune to read. To be honest, I dropped it after the first 2 volumes.

So you win a pet monkey at a fair, but this isn’t just any old monkey. It can do one trick for you whenever you want from getting a pop out of the fridge to washing your hair. What would be the trick?

Work for me at the office! That counts as one trick, right?
